  • We have established a Community Art Space in the shop opposite the South Alive office at the rear entrance to the mall
  • The Community Art Space has two separate areas - a Gallery and an Arts Hub
    1. The Gallery is available for exhibitions of all kinds of art, from as many different groups as possible.
    2. The Arts Hub is available for art and craft workshops and courses/classes, demonstrations, possibly other kinds of courses as well, music groups and small concerts and community meetings.
    3. Create a stimulating and creative hub in south Invercargill that strengthens residents’ connection to their community
    4. Encourage local emerging and established artists by providing a venue to exhibit, perform anddisplay their work
    5. Provide the south Invercargill community (and beyond) with a space promoting local artistic and cultural activities as well as other activities as space and time allows

The activities of the Artspace will therefore include:

  • Exhibitions
  • Art and Craft Workshops and courses, possibly other kinds of courses as well e.g. music
  • Artist-in-residence. Host a working artist from time to time, so the public can watch artwork, including sculpture, being created
  • Other kind of exhibitions and courses e.g. health and wellbeing
  • Venue for small community group meetings

What we have done to date

  • The group first fitted out a gallery / arts space in an empty shop on Elles Road, where they held six art classes for adults, five for children and five art exhibitions before shifting to its permanent home in the shop opposite the South Alive office
  • The gallery is available to hire at $50 per week and the Hub at $10 for up to two hours or $20 per day. See venue pages for further information.

Forward Plans

  • Lots more exhibitions and art/craft courses of all kinds
  • Develop and grow a 'Friends of the Gallery' group that will help market and mind the gallery during exhibitions.
  • Development of an artist-in-residence programme.
  • Develop and implement a marketing programme for the Gallery and Hub.
